So this passed weekend was the weekend I've had planned since before I even arrived to Spain: Barcelona! I can honestly say that this was the one place that I've visited so far in Spain that I did not want to leave. I loved Barcelona so much and everything about it was amazing to me. If I had the opportunity to live there one day, I would probably take it even if it were only for a year! We got to see and do so much and the weather was absolutely perfect.
The first day, after an 8 hour bus ride from 11pm to 7am, we arrived at Estacion Sants feeling unrested and uncomfortable after the drive. After some breakfast, we decided to begin our trip by doing the Camp Nou Experience, an opportunity to tour Camp Nou and see the museum as well. I've never been a huge soccer fan until now, but I can say this was definitely something that you have to see at least once in your life. The stadium is huge and we got to go into the locker room of the opposing team, stand on the field, walk through the tunnel that the players walk through, and even sit in the press box.
After the Camp Nou experience, and a much needed nap, we went exploring in Las Ramblas and were able to visit the oldest market in Barcelona, "Merkat St. Josep" We were also able to see Port Vell at the end of Las Ramblas overlooking the sea.
anyone who knows can probably guess that I definitely made a stop at this stand :)
On Saturday, we got up early to see the rest of the sights in Barcelona. We started at the famous cathedral: La Sagrada Familia. It definitely has a different look to it from the other cathedrals in Spain, but unfortunately it is still under renovation and the line to see the inside wrapped around the entire block. Regardless, being able to see the surroundings of one of the most popular cathedrals in Spain was really amazing, even though it was my second time around. La Sagrada Familia was designed by famous artist Antoni Gaudi who also designed Parc Guell, the following attraction we visited. The reason that the cathedral is incomplete is because Gaudi was never able to finish it explaining why it's always under construction. It's actually not projected to be complete until 2026-2028.
After La Sagrada Familia we ventured over to the Arc of Triumph which was immediately followed by a promenade leading to Ciutadella Park which was a nice place to relax and take a short break.
The next stop on our trip was Parc Guell, a park designed, as mentioned, by Gaudi which is basically an extremely complex garden with architectural elements, and it's huge... it's one of the largest architectural works in South Europe. Not to mention it's situated on a hill that overlooks Barcelona in it's entirety.
Finally, Sunday was the day of the game that we had been waiting for all weekend. Barcelona won 7-0 and Messi broke the record for most goals scored. It was an amazing experience and I can't wait to go back to Barcelona again! I'm so excited to say that I actually went to a futbol game in Spain.
Until next time chicos!!! Missing you all a ton!
Next stop: Portugual!
